Together is better!
The Berwick Speedway Supporters Club held their EGM today, to discuss a proposal by Berwick Bandits Speedway Club Ltd. to enhance the present ‘Supporters Club,’ to an official body of the club, in essence a ‘Berwick Bandits Speedway ‘Members Club’.
Corrine Gillie, the chairperson of the committee opened the meeting and passed on to Phil Newton for a presentation to outline the proposals on offer. These proposals are yet to be agreed upon in detail but are a guideline of what the Speedway Club is offering to ‘Members’.
A brief synopsis of the proposals are as follows:-
- Bringing the fans closer to the Club
- Bridging the gap between the fans and the management
- Giving added value to existing ‘Supporters Club’ membership
- Officially affiliated with representation on Club matters
- Exclusive offers available to Members from Club through admission, events, merchandise, and subsidised away travel
A full copy of the proposals can be found on our download page.
It was agreed by an overwhelming majority vote, to accept the Berwick Promotion’s proposals.
Spokesman for the promotion, Phil Newton commented, “The idea behind having an ‘official supporters body,’ is to recognise the loyal fans of the club, to put them first, and to give them something back. The core values of the new promotion are to provide an excellent Saturday night’s entertainment, but at a cost that people can afford. The ‘Supporters Club,’ have done a marvellous job in the first year of raising funds, for not only the promotion to utilise on track equipment and stadium maintenance but also to the riders wearing the Black & Gold body colour in 2009. As a promotion, we are very thankful of the tremendous amount of work that has gone into fund-raising by the ‘Supporters Club’ over the last year, and felt that we needed not only to recognise this fact, but also to reward it. In essence nothing will change as far as the existing supporters club is concerned, other than we believe that that they should help themselves a little more. Speedway is about fans and supporters first and foremost. We as a club cannot continue without people coming to watch, and want to give supporters the best experience we can.
Corrinne Gillie, wished to thank the members who turned out on Sunday to view and hear the presentation made by the Berwick Speedway Promotion. Corrinne commented that, “Sometimes in the past there has been a them and us feeling, through no fault of anyone, but the new recognised supporters body, now has a clear communication channel with the management of Berwick Speedway, so that we can concentrate all our efforts in the same direction.”
The ‘Supporters Club,’ will still have an independent committee, that will take the decisions on any fund-allocation, however they will take on the views of the management for any advice that they may give in this regards. A meeting for the committee to discuss the ‘New’ Supporters Club has been arranged for Friday 5th February at the Black & Gold 7.30pm.
